Yukon WeatherThe Yukon with it's pristine landscape has a continental sub-arctic climate, with longer, cooler, dry winters and shorter, dry, warm summers. The surrounding mountains tend to block the mild Pacific air from the territory for much of the time. In the winter, pacific air does make it's way into the southwest corner of the region, bringing mild spells to the Whitehorse region. The average temperatures for Whitehorse in January are -16°C (maximum) and -25°C(minimum). Temperatures in the summer months are quite often pleasant reaching at times the mid 20°C's. Because of its northern location, the Yukon has very short days in winter, balanced by very long days in midsummer. Though the Arctic Circle lies some distance north of Dawson, the "midnight sun" can be seen in late June from the Dome (the large hill behind the city).
